Go “green” with....

Residential irrigation can account for 40% of domestic water
consumption in a given area. Rain barrels not only store water, they help
decrease demand during the summer months. Collection of water from rooftop
runoff can provide an ample supply of this free 'soft water' containing no
chlorine, lime or calcium. Because it tends to have fewer sediments and
dissolved salts than municipal water, rain water is ideal for many
applications, including vegetable and flower gardens, automobile washing,
and cleaning household windows. Saving water in this manner will reduce
your demand for treated tap water, and save money by lowering your monthly
bill.
Our beautiful rain barrels are made from slow growth American white oak.
Handcrafted in the United States, historically these barrels were used for
the storage and transportation of goods, but now are made almost
exclusively for the production of whiskey and fine wines. Although we
purchase these exclusively from local Oregon wineries, these are genuine
barrels that have been used at wineries and distilleries around the world.
Your barrel may come emblazoned with the name of one of several different
wineries or distilleries on top.
Our genuine white oak rain barrels look great on all styles of homes. Each
one is purchased straight from local Oregon wineries and was used in
actual wine production. Each barrel is unique, having spent years
developing its own color and style. We clean each barrel of dirt and
debris before installation, but leave the wine stains and aged wood that
gives each one its individual look.
Each rain barrel is checked for leaks prior to installation and includes a
poly downspout adapter, downspout leaf trap, wooden bung, brass overflow
pipe, and a brass faucet that easily connects to any standard garden hose.

Care and feeding of your oak rain
barrels
Wooden rain barrels look great and help reduce water
usage, but they do take some care. All of our rain barrels are genuine
whiskey and wine barrels from actual distilleries and wineries. They are
made to hold liquids and have done so for many years, however it is
important to keep your new rain barrel from drying out. Each one is tested
for leaks before being installed as a rain barrel. Because this is a
“green” product, and not made of plastic, it does require some care. If
the barrels are allowed to dry out, the wood will shrink, causing the
barrel to leak. You will have to rehydrate the barrel and may have to
tighten up the hoops. To tighten the hoops, tap all hoops in toward the
center of the barrel. This will squeeze the staves together and stop most
leaks. Make sure you tap all the hoops in. This means that you will have
to turn the barrel over and tap the lower hoops in as well. Tightening the
hoops, then rehydrating the barrel, should prevent further leaking.
We guarantee our rain barrels to be free from leaks when installed. If you
have water available we can fill the barrel and you can check for leaks at
the time of installation. Since the barrel does take continued care, Great
Northwest Gutters offers no guarantee against leaks after installation. If
you have any questions, please feel free to give us a call at
